Putting On My "Big Boots"

Updated: May 16, 2019

For a little over 12 years now, Big Boots Productions has been a full-service video production company focused on corporate video, training video, web and promotional video. Our goal has always been to provide budget conscious, high quality videos that meet the needs of our clients, fit their corporate culture and brand, initiate the desired response from their target markets and above all, improve their business.

Now, do you want the real story behind it all?

I started this company with my husband Anthony Jarrett (Tony) in 2007 after we had spent several years working in television production both in front of and behind the camera. It seemed like a natural progression. I was a producer and he was a cameraman and editor.

We had complimentary skills, loved working together (most of the time) and the idea of starting our own business and being entrepreneurs was exciting! So, we went for it!

Over the years we had many successes and learned so much. We worked with some incredible clients, built great relationships, and created a body of work we were very proud of. We realized as time went on that we had naturally fallen into a "niche". Most of our clients were retail focused and as a result, retail training seemed to have become our specialty. With the ever-changing landscape of video production, we understood that defining yourself in the industry was critical. So that was the plan moving forward.

Then we hit a hiccup...a big one. In 2014 my husband, business partner and father to our (then) 3-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Cancer. Not just any Cancer... stage 4 lung Cancer. It was like being hit by a Mac truck. It felt like our world was coming to an end and unfortunately in many ways it was. Our world, the one we had created, fought for and struggled through. The world we loved.

Of course, we weren't giving up without a fight! And we weren't giving up on the business. Everything we'd worked for. So, for the next two and a half years Tony would fight an amazing and inspiring battle. He worked through most of it...with a smile on his face as always and his infectious chuckle. Of course, the business had to take a bit of a back seat to his health and we couldn’t grow our company the way we had planned, but we had high hopes that he'd beat the disease somehow and we'd get back on track. After all he was young and strong right?

I lost him on May 21st, 2016 and in the process felt I had lost myself.

Of course, I was devastated. My partner in life and in business was gone. At that point I had no idea where things would go for me in my life and career. Would I carry on with Big Boots Productions or would I try and start fresh? Both paths seemed overwhelming. I continued the business more as a side project for the next year, just trying to figure out which path to choose. When so much of who you are has been intertwined with another person, it's sometimes difficult to define where their dreams and passions ended and yours began.

It's been a slow process, but I've started to remember who I am again. What I love, what drives me and what used to drive me even before I met Tony. It's all coming back. My years of experience in the television and video production industry is still with me! My love of working with clients, fulfilling their goals and hitting their targets is still there! My excitement at crafting a high-quality final product that exceeds a client's expectations is still there! Retail and corporate training is still my focus, along with product knowledge and promotional video and I'm thrilled to be working with my new and extremely talented team. I can't wait to see some of the new work we create together!

But most importantly...the fear that I can't make Big Boots Productions a success without Tony is fading. I know he'd want me to continue with what we built together and make it everything we planned. Make it my own.

So, I am putting on my "Big Boots."
